Carpet Fibers
Next to your home furnishings and interior designs, your floors
are the next most important things that you must be concerned
to complete that classic and luxurious look of your indoor.
Most common these days are carpets. Though carpets have been
widely used years ago, carpets today are far more colorful and
elegant-looking, thus getting more and more homeowners loving
these products. Carpet fibers practically are the determining
factors as to the look, the feel, the stain resistance, the
durability, and of course the cost of your carpets. That is
why, choosing the right carpets with the right carpet fibers
are just as important.
There are basically seven know carpet fibers that are being
widely used in the market today: nylon, olefin (polypropylene),
polyester, acrylic, wool, blends, and PET (polyethylene terephthalate).
Nylon is the most popular amongst all the other types of
carpet fibers. Because of its durability, stain resistance,
static-free capability, and its ability to repel mildew, it
is indeed the most trusted so far. Its colors do not easily
run because dye is already added prior to fiber production.
Accordingly, ninety percent of home carpeting is made out
of nylon. Depending on the cut, carpets made from nylon can
range from ten dollars a square yard to thirty dollars for
the multi-leveled loops. Olefin, another type of carpet fibers,
is scientifically known as polypropylene. Falls second from
nylon, Olefin is considered as one of the most affordable
fibers. It is strong, easy to maintain, and can withstand
to both mildew and moisture, making it preferable for indoor
and outdoor usage. About eighty percent of home carpeting
across the globe is made from Olefin (polypropylene). Less
expensive than nylon or wool, polyester is also elegant-looking
carpet options. Mostly used in soft loops or Berber loops,
polyester carpets looks very luxurious and accordingly crush-resistant.
Polyester comes with different fade-resistant, vibrant colors
that are stain resistant. Acrylic likewise, is wool-like,
often used in level loop carpets. It is the less expensive
version of wool, which is also resistant to mildew, and moisture.
Moreover, acrylic carpet fiber is also stain and fade resistant
just like the other carpet fibers. The disadvantage though
of acrylic carpets, is that they cannot sustain with heavy
traffics, therefore making it not suitable in all areas of
your household. Wool is basically the most elegant and expensive
carpet fibers. Wool, another type of carpet fiber is known
for its superb performance and durability with that classic
appearance, perfect for your living spaces. Wool is also water-resistant
like the others and it is fine if you prefer to have them
dyed. This type of carpet fiber is common in cut piles and
those textured carpets. Furthermore, wool can last for quite
a long time and is very easy to maintain. But the downside
of this though is its price. They are extremely expensive
but then, they are of the best quality. So practically, your
money is well worth spent if you intend to buy carpets made
from wool fibers. Blends are basically blended materials from
the above-mentioned carpets. Blended fiber carpet is also
very popular nowadays, with the most common blends; wool/nylon,
acrylic/ olefin, and nylon/olefin. Lastly, PET carpets are
made from polyethylene terephthalate. PETs are from recycled
plastics as well as packaged goods, soda containers being
the most known examples having these components. Though sometimes
candidly considered as plastic fibers in carpet, PETs carpets
still have that durability found in other carpet types. Likewise,
they are also static and water resistant, though they may
not feel as smooth as those carpets made from wool.
Knowing the different carpet fiber types are helpful enough
in determining what type of carpets is right for you. Be sure
to choose the right ones. After all, your carpets are one
of the most important flooring additions to your homes, aren’t
hey. |
