Carpet History
For every household, it is but normal for us to see at least
a piece of carpet on specific places of the house. Some use
carpets to compliment and enhance the look of their homes. While
others, use carpets as their flooring, thanks to the revolutionary
carpet tiles that is convenient and very easy to install. Why
do carpets speak of elegance and sophistication? And does anyone
know anything about carpet history at all?
Carpet history surprisingly dates back about 6000 BC ago,
where sheep and goats were sheared and then there hair are
being spun and woven together to form some form of a rug.
By 10000 BC, an aspiring trader named Marco Polo discovered
the art of rug making from Central Asia. This was when trading
missions were fast increasing among traders from India, China,
Persia, North America, and Persia. By 1596, Pierre Dupont
of Paris started creating carpets. The first US-based carpet
manufacturer was then created in 1791 by a William Sprague
of Philadelphia.
During those years, there was a fast increase of other carpet
manufacturers across the US states and by 1839, Erasmus Bigelow,
another US manufacturer made the very first power loom, used
for carpet weaving, with productions twice as much as those
of the first ones. But that is not the end of the history
of carpets. By then, more and more producers came into the
picture, with innovative and more colorful products introduced
to the market. From polyester to nylon to tufted carpets,
the production line just keeps on getting better and better.
From 1950 onwards, Dalton, Georgia was considered the carpet
capital of the world for its numerous innovations of carpets
with different styles that is surprisingly affordable despite
top of the line materials used. Nylon carpets also made it
to the carpet history year 1947 because of its durability,
with the most luxurious fiber quality which is as durable
as wool but less expensive this time.
Because of the fact that the carpet industry has successfully
made it to the buying public, manufacturers never realized
that carpet maintenance is very much important. That’s
why, carpet cleaners came in to the picture. Carpet cleaning
history dates back 1876, with the pioneers of the carpet cleaning
industry named Bissell. The company’s main goal is to
provide the right products that can help you improve the look
of your carpets. Likewise, the company has developed cleaning
tools together with state of the art formula, created to keep
every homeowner’s living environment to its utmost standards.
The history of carpet cleaners, particularly the ones from
the premiere Bissell Company, started in the middle of the
1800, when crockery shop owners Melville and Anna Bissell
encountered problems on how to remove sawdust that clung to
their carpets. Because Melville Bissell has always had the
passion for mechanics, he invented the carpet sweeper, hoping
that it could solve the problem once and for all. As it turned
out, his invention was an instant success and soon, people
started ordering carpet sweepers from the Bissell couple.
By 1876, the Bissell Carpet Sweeper became officially patented
and seven years after, the very first Bissell Manufacturing
Plant stood tall in Michigan. However, Melville unexpected
death in the year 1889 has forced her wife, Anna, to take
control of the manufacturing firm, thus making her the US
very first female chief executive officer. Anna was able to
boost productions of the company, with additional carpet cleaning
products that has undeniably helped a lot of homeowners worldwide.
Now, after more than a hundred and thirty years had passed,
Bissell Company has expanded, helping more and more people
in keeping their carpets clean and durable.
Knowing carpet history is indeed one way of making us homeowners
to further appreciate the importance of having carpets around
our homes. After all, these carpets have made the look of
our homes classy and sophisticated all these years. |
