How Carpet Is Made
Most of us know how beautiful carpets are. They look elegant
and classy and they create this subtle feeling inside your lovely
homes. But has it not come across your mind how carpet is made?
Basically, how carpet is made depends upon the materials
being used on making it and the construction of these materials.
There are four known types as to how carpets are made; machine-woven,
tufted, fiber bonded, and hand knotted. The very first known
carpet construction types are the Administer carpets and the
Wilton Carpets. Traditionally, these are two of the most in-demand
types of carpets for household use. However, as days and years
passed by, and with the fast increase of technologically inclined
carpet manufacturers, more and more types of procedures are
done with the aid of machines that can create carpets more
than twice the products of the ordinary ones.
Machine Woven carpets are those carpets made from massive
looms of carpet yarns called bobbins, woven together with
a carpet backing. These Administer and Wilton carpets are
perfect examples for these types of carpets. The results are
extremely elegant, with designs intricately patterned, creating
a luxury look of your floors and at the same time providing
supreme underfoot convenience. This is actually the most conventional
type of carpets that we most often hear. But you hear about
tufted carpets. Then you ask yourself, how is tufted carpet
made? Tufted carpets are also as popular as the machine woven
carpets; only they are a little more expensive compared with
the latter. This method is actually the latest, as far as
carpet history is concerned. Tufted carpets are similar with
machine woven carpets, only they are produced faster because
of the type of machine that is used. With tufted carpets,
there are quite different forms of these types. The most popular
ones are the velvet, the loop pile, and the twist pile. The
carpets in a twist file form are the ones produced from more
fibers that are twisted together in a process called tufting,
thus producing a carpet that appears durably bounded with
each other. On the other hand, carpets that are in velvet
pile form are shorter but tighter in terms of construction
giving a velvety and smooth finish. Likewise, the loop piled-
carpets are popular for its durability and great carpet textures.
Fiber Bonded carpets, as the name itself, are fibers woven
and stuck together for carpet backings. The fibers used in
this one have to be of the best quality for that added durability.
These types of carpets, especially those that have bitumen
backings, are being used in contract carpeting and generally;
carpet tiles make use of these ones. Finally, Hand knotted
carpets, also called a hand made carpet, are the traditional
ways of making carpets. This type of method is made basically
works of arts of expert weavers, therefore making it expensive
and hard to find.
If you already thought you already know what there is to
know about how carpet is made, think again. More and more
homeowners nowadays prefer to have that personal touch of
their carpets, thus the birth of a custom made carpet. A custom
made carpet is basically a carpet designed for specific clients,
who wants to personalize their carpets. Here, you can find
unique designs that you cannot find in the local carpet industry
and more often, their sizes are far more different from the
ordinary ones. But this type of method takes a whole lot of
time from preparation to the making because careful designs
and techniques are studied upon before finally making it.
