What a way to accentuate an old and boring room with carpets. Carpets have long been in existence and they continually add vibrant to an ordinary section of the house. Gone are the days when they were only one solid block of color. Due to the innovation made to enhance the carpet making industry, various types and techniques were practiced, thus giving birth to more revolutionized carpets.

A woven or felted floor covering is simply referred to as carpets. During the ancient times, a carpet was only used for tables and to cover walls. It was not until the 18th century before the European used them on their floors. It was said to have originated from Central Asia around the 2nd or 3rd millennium B.C.

There are countless types of fibers used in carpet making and all possess dissimilar characteristics. When choosing your very own, just bear in mind that different carpet material reacts differently even if placed in the same location for the same number of years. The rule of the thumb is always to know your location. This needs to be determined because different areas in the house would require different type of carpets. Spend greater and pay more attention to high-traffic areas such as the living room, stairs, and the kitchen. How ever you can lay low on the cost for less frequented areas in the house. Don’t worry, because even if you spare a couple more on some of the section in your house, it will all pay off once you see that they are more durable.

These are some of the most common fibers used in carpet making:

Nylon

This is the most common material used in making those carpets. It accounts to 90 percent of all residential carpets and a total of 65 percent on all carpets both outdoors and indoors. It is also a very suitable choice for high traffic areas because it is static free and is very durable. It is also very resistant to stain and soils. However, not to discourage you but this material may hike the price a little more; the price for regular carpet may range from $8 per sq. yard to as much as $30 per square yard for multi-level loops.

Polyester

This material, though not as strong as nylon, is also durable. Its advantage over other fibers is that it is easier to clean and has a strong resistance to soluble stains. They cost less than nylon; however, they eventually fade and wear out if constantly exposed to sunlight.

Wool

This is a luxurious type of material, however still very durable and resistant to stain as well. Wool made carpets also has disadvantages for it tends to absorb static and eventually tends to unravel, and they are oh so expensive. They can range from $18 to $66 per square yard.
Aside from the materials or fibers used for carpet making, there are also a lot of types or techniques used as well. Here are two of them:

Cut Pile Type

this is the bestseller among all the other types of carpet. It is known for its elegant finish and assortments in solid hues. It is very versatile and features clipped loops. It is very soft, dense, and well defined.

Multi-Level Loop Pile

It is constructed so that the loops vary in height (usually up to 3 different heights). This is given such finish to create a random texture. This type is very good for traffic areas.
Carpets are a very good investment because they can last up to years or even decades. They are slowly becoming more than just a home improvement but also a future necessity.
